Having returned to racing in typically good form this season, classy stayer Massiyn has opened as and maintained status at the fore of Sandown Cup betting and is currently available at a quote of $3.20 for success ahead of Renew ($4.20), Like A Carousel ($5.50) and Shoreham ($7) at Ladbrokes.com.au.

Will Massiyn justify favouritism and win the 2014 Sandown Cup, or will one of his classy rivals find the line in the clear?

1st

Unchain My Heart ($17)

While yet to hit peak condition over the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival, talented veteran mare Unchain My Heart is a proven performer over two miles, is carrying a race-low 56.5kgs and has been confirmed to be partnered by renowned jockey Craig Newitt in the 2014 Sandown Cup. Running third in the Legacy 2014 Badge Appeal Handicap (2000m) on August 16th, Unchain My Heart finished fourth in the Craig Opie Cup (2500m) and third in the Listed Harry White Classic (2400m) on September 27th before contesting each of the Group 2 Herbert Power Stakes (2400m), Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) and Group 1 Melbourne Cup (3200m) most recently. A two-time winner of the Listed Andrew Ramsden Stakes (3200m), the Al Maher mare without doubt offers punters the best value for money in Sandown Cup betting markets and is more than worth consideration for a bet at current odds.

2nd

Like A Carousel ($5.50)

Also arguably offered at overs at current $5.50 odds for success or $2.05 to figure in the places, Like A Carousel competed in the Group 1 Sydney Cup (3200m) over autumn this year and has returned to racing in typically good form this time. Running fifth amongst classy competition in the Jeep Don’t Hold Back BM84 (2040m) first-up on September 6th, Like A Carousel charged home to win the Listed Harry White Classic on September 27th before placing third in the Group 3 Geelong Cup (2400m) and Group 3 Lexus Stakes (2500m). Allocated the wide and somewhat awkward barrier 12, trainer Ken Keys is confident veteran jockey Dwayne Dunn will get the best from his sole Sandown Cup entrant on Saturday.

3rd

Renew ($4.20)

Unable to figure in either of his first two competitive starts after arriving in Australian, Renew will carry competitive and relevant form into the 2014 Sandown Cup after finishing a close second to Grand Marshall in the Visit Victoria Plate (2800m) on Melbourne Cup Day. A standout in his native Britain under the guidance of Marco Botti before transferring to the care of Archie Alexander this season, the Dansili gelding finished sixth in the Listed August Stakes (2336m) first-up and third amongst classy competition in the renowned Conditions Stakes (2835m) on September 4th.
