November 10th, 2015

Like A Carousel ran a close second in the two most recent editions of the Sandown Cup (3200m) and trainer Ken Keys thrilled with the condition of the classy stayer ahead of another tilt at the featured race this weekend.

Like A Carousel has posted two wins and a further ten minors through 32 career starts so far, but has displayed a clear affinity with two mile racing; adding an impressive third in the Group 1 Sydney Cup (3200m) this year to his two second in the Sandown Cup.

Unlucky to be balloted out of contention of last week’s Melbourne Cup, Keys told RSN the Helike gelding could not be in better condition ahead of the 2015 Sandown Cup and is hopeful the race will figure as an ideal opportunity for a return to winning form.

“He’s going super, we just can’t get him to a race far enough,” Keys said.

“He’s had a couple of go’s at it so he knows the place. We paid right up all the way through to the Melbourne Cup because that’s a two-miler and obviously this was our back up.”

Like A Carousel ran on for an impressive fourth in last weekend’s Group 3 Queen’s Cup (2600m) at Flemington and Keys is confident the race has tuned the six-year-old up ideally for the 2015 Sandown Cup.

“It’s actually topped him off nicely. He had a pretty soft run the start before when he didn’t tack on. He finished off the Moonee Valley Cup well but he put himself out of it by getting too far back,” Key said.

Dwayne (Dunn) on Saturday rode him super.

“He’s had two go and has run second the last two years so hopefully it’s our turn this year.”

Returning to the paddock for a brief spell following his Sydney Cup third, Like A Carousel returned this time for 12th in the talent-rich Spring Is The Season Handicap (1700m) but failed to beat a single runner home in the Group 3 Naturalism Stakes (2000m) on September 19th.

Running thirteenth in the Group 3 The Bart Cummings (2500m) on October 4th, Like A Carousel progressed to a credible fifth in the Group 2 Moonee Valley Cup (2500m) in his only other start prior to the Queen’s Cup.

The 2015 Sandown Cup final field and barrier draw is due to be completed and released by midday, Wednesday.
