Godolphin raider Qewy remains a clear and justifiable $2.05 favourite in Sandown Cup betting markets with Ladbrokes.com.au after finishing fourth in the Melbourne Cup, ahead of De Little Engine ($5) and Murphy’s Delight ($8).

Will Qewy justify favouritism and win the 2016 Sandown Cup, or will one of his rivals post a big upset?

Qewy ($2.05)

Qewy has been a strong and consistent performer throughout his entire racing career so far, is a proven performer at the class and distance of the Sandown Cup and should just win the staying feature on Saturday. Placing second in a pair of talent rich races in his homeland upon resuming for trainer Charlie Appleby, the Street Cry gelding debuted in Australia for a classy win in the Group 3 Geelong Cup (2400m) on October 19th, in what was his only other start prior to the Melbourne Cup. Kerrin McEvoy takes the ride on the prominent stayer from the rails draw.

Swacadelic ($13)

Swacadelic has been the stable star for Warrnambool horseman Aaron Purcell this year and appears as though he will relish a step up to 3200m in the Sandown Cup. Posting a number of commendable results through autumn, including a strong win in the Listed Torney Night Cup (2400m), the Adlerflug gelding has steadily built to the task this time and has hit the line well for fifth in the Geelong Cup and fourth in the Prince Of Penzance Plate (2800m) most recently.

De Little Engine ($5)

De Little Engine has also returned to racing in smart form this time and should be right in the finish of the Sandown Cup, after being charged with carrying only 54kgs. Running mid-field in the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes (2000m), De Little Engine laid a great account for himself when ninth in the Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m), and has since finished fourth in the Group 3 Lexus Stakes (2500m) and Group 3 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2600m).
